Taking Care of a Toddler

Share

Toddlers are the children of one to three years old. The word toddler is derived from the word “to toddle’ meaning walk unsteadily.

To be a parent is most probably the happiest blessing for human. They give all their cardinal love and best care to their child.

Basic Things

  • Every parent likes to give their child the best food. But do you really know which food is the best or perfect for your little one?

It is really very important to select the perfect food for your baby.  In this case, you should keep attention on the nutritive value of the food and digestive mechanism of the children. The food which is nutritive and easily digestible, that is surely the perfect food for your baby.

  • Daily bath is probably necessary for your baby.  The water should not be too cold or too hot.  Moderate temperature should be maintained.

Selecting soap for your baby is also important. Losing moisture from the skin of your baby is a fact.  Select a soap which won’t extract too much moisture from the skin of your baby.

  • Don’t you think it’s amazing to start introducing the potty or toilet with your lovely baby? But you can’t rush and you can’t force a baby who is not yet ready. But when is he ready?

When your baby turns about one year of age, he might start to be aware of the weight feeling in her nappies. At this age a baby has no control over her bladder.

By the age of two or two and half your baby will have the necessary physical control and communication skill as well to inform you about her sensation.

Never rush a child if he is not ready. If you do it will just promote frustration both in you and in your baby. Take it easy and just encourage her even after accidents.  Accidents are common for the baby below five years old.

  • Your little angel of 1-3 years old needs about 13-14 hours sleep in a day. She possibly needs two naps in the afternoon while her age is twelve months but by the age of 18 months she needs a single nap of one and half to two hours. But you must be careful about nap because taking longer naps may make your baby a night owl.

Set the consistent naptimes and bedtimes for your baby as a part of her daily routine.  If all the activities of your child such as playing, eating, taking nap and getting ready for bed etc are done about the same time every day, without any struggle she’ll be likely to fall asleep.

Is your child able to fall asleep on her own? It is really important for your child to be able to fall asleep by herself not for sometimes but for every night, without depending on breastfeeding, rocking, talking or being sung to.

Other Things

Be careful about the physical, mental and emotional activities of your child.  Keep attention on the height, weight as well as physical and mental development of your little one.  Always encourage her for all her good activities.  Meet with doctors twice in a month, discuss and take advice for your child.  Always support her both physically and mentally.
